My Internship at Stealth EV

Stealth EV is an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) to EV (Electric Vehicle) conversion shop that mainly focuses on older Volkswagen models. The quality of work they produce makes it look as if the electric conversion was made stock. I was a second pair of hands around the workplace, aiding in whatever needed to be done. Since I wasn't really locked down into a specific role, I was able to do more than what was assigned to me.
My project was to put together a battery box that was as efficient as possible. The best way to do this is to have the shortest wires you can have. I had to figure out a way to orient the straps (The connectors between each cell in the battery pack) so that both the positive and negative wires would come out of the same side of the box. After numerous attempts of different layouts we realized that what we wanted was impossible, as we had an odd number of rows. While we could make them both come out the same side with an even amount of rows, an odd amount would always have the cables on opposite ends. So we chose the layout that looked the neatest and connected all the cells in the battery box. After the cells and wires were all comleted and conected, the next step was to balance them. It was an easy but very time consuming process. We had to drain each individual cell to a specific voltage so that the whole battery pack would have a unified voltage, and not multiple varied voltages. Once the balancing was complete, the battery pack was complete and ready to power the car.

I learned that running a business can be very hectic and will use up most of your time, especially one that is in such a new field. But mostly I leanred that electric vehicles will become more effective, efficient, and affordable in the near futute. Another few things I learned were some basic electronics (voltage, current, capacity, wiring, efficiency, etc...) and lots of high voltage safety.
This internship gave me a wonderful chance to broaden my horizons of possible future careers, as well as learn new things along the way. This workplace has allowed me to get a better knowledge of the future of the automotive industry and the goals that are set for it. I have always been interested in cars, and the older ones especially. But seeing how Stealth EV brings a new life into such old and classic cars really interests me, and may even interest me enough to persue it as a career.
